EDWARD READ was a convict who was tried and convicted at Suffolk, England and sentenced to seven years transportation in 1787. READ arrived with the Third Fleet per Matilda (1791) on 1 August 1791 but did not survive long in the colony. He was buried in an unmarked grave at St. John’s Cemetery, Parramatta as “EDWARD REED, Convict” [sic] just five months later on 8 January 1792.
